Alan Johnson MP, Minister for EducationAs well as being a worthwhile activity for its own sake, music is a powerful learning tool which can build children's confidence, teamwork and language skills. A better musical education for pupils can also help them hit the right note in their studies.
Schools & workshops
Every member of the Serlo Consort is keen to do what they can to stop the growing trend of the decline of singing amongst our young in schools and in local communities. Many of the choir have a strong association with the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music), either as staff or tutors — and spend a great deal of time running courses, events and workshops for children and adults promoting singing.
Any school (primary or secondary) or higher education institute interested in a workshop/concert should contact the Director to find out what would be most suited to your needs.
Below are examples of courses and workshops we offer:
- Any suitable workshop with primary school children to fit in with the National Curriculum (e.g. Tudor period)
- Any suitable workshop with secondary school pupils, particularly those working towards exams (GCSE/A-level)
- Any suitable workshop for college/university music students to fit in with particular courses (Renaissance studies/20th century music, etc)
- Any of the above can take place during either a whole day (or longer) or just an afternoon, culminating in a performance for wider friends, staff & family.
