Kit Perona-Wright (Artistic Director)
Kit studied music at Exeter University, where he was also an organ and choral scholar at the Cathedral, and he holds a first class music degree with a Dean’s Commendation for academic excellence and a Master’s degree in English Cathedral Music and Liturgy. In addition to these, Kit holds diplomas from the Royal College of Organists in both organ playing and Choral Direction.
After working for the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) for whom he still examines nationally for vocal awards, Kit took up the position of Head of Keyboard at Dulwich College Prep School.
Kit has held Director of Music posts at various prestigious musical churches, including St. Peter’s, Bexhill and St. Stephen’s, Dulwich. As an accompanist, he performs regularly with many choirs – both large choral societies as a concert organist or continuo player, and smaller chamber choirs as a pianist. He has performed with various high-profile artists as an accompanist, such as the counter-tenor, James Bowman, and the international trumpeter, Alison Balsom.
As a conductor, organist or singer, Kit has recorded several albums for a variety of record labels, has performed live on BBC radio 3 and Classic FM, and has appeared on primetime TV for Channel 4. In 2008, Kit worked as a choral arranger for Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) on a Christmas Carol album which enjoyed a worldwide release.
As a conductor, Kit has worked with many different choirs and orchestras, including the London Mozart Players, The Camerata of London and The St. Paul’s Sinfonia, and has performed in a variety of venues, ranging from St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, through to The Fairfield Halls, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. John’s Smith Square and even The London Palladium! He recently gave up the position of Conductor and Musical Director of Carshalton Choral Society, having performed most of the major repertoire with them; including Beethoven ‘Missa Solemnis’, Haydn’s ‘Creation’, Will Todd ‘Mass in Blue’, Brahms ‘Requiem’ and Elgar’s ‘The Dream of Gerontius’, to name but a few.
Kit is an elected member of the Royal Society of Musicians, has a research Fellowship in Psalmody from the London College of Music and a conducting Fellowship from the Royal Schools of Music. From September 2011, Kit took up the position of Director of Music and Senior Staff member at Cheltenham College Junior School in addition to his work as Artistic Director of The Serlo Consort.
