Congratulations on a truly memorable concert. The programme was obviously chosen with great care and attention to detail. The sound you drew out of the singers was ravishing.

David was educated at Oakham School where he held a music award.  He spent his gap year as a choral scholar at Truro cathedral under Andrew Nethsingha.  He went on to read Music at Exeter University, where he was also a choral scholar in the cathedral choir under Andrew Millington.  He remained a full time member of the cathedral choir whilst completing his Masters degree in English Cathedral Music.

While at university, David founded and directed the Wesley Singers, who performed numerous concerts in and around Exeter.  He was also engaged regularly as both a soloist and ensemble singer throughout the South West of England.

On completing his MA, David accepted a post with the Royal School of Church Music in Surrey.  He became Musical Director of Carshalton Choral Society in September 2005 which he combined with the post of Assistant Director of Music at Brighton and Hove High School. During this time he was also a member of the choir at St. Peter’s Church Eaton Square, and sang regularly as a deputy in Westminster Abbey, St George’s Chapel Windsor Castle and St Paul’s Cathedral Choirs.

In September 2006, David was appointed as a Bass Lay-Clerk at Norwich Cathedral which he combined with teaching music at Notre Dame High School in Norwich.

David then taught music at Gresham’s School and conducted both Norwich Cathedral Consort and the Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society, recently directing highly acclaimed performances of Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Brahms’ Requiem, and Strauss’ Four Last Songs. Other recent conducting engagements have included Tallis Spem in Alium, Bach Mass in B minor, Mozart Requiem and Norwich Cathedral Consort and Norwich Baroque’s recent performances of Bach’s St John Passion and Handel’s Messiah.

David has, from January 2012, taken up the position of Director of Music at Milton Abbey School in Dorset. He combines this with an  increasing demand as a baritone soloist and ensemble singer and enjoys a varied lifestyle of conducting, composing, singing and teaching across the United Kingdom.
